Privacy Policy
SpawnScore is a video game and movie ratings and reviews site. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can: there are no ads, no analytics trackers and no data sales.
What we collect
Account details. When you sign up we store your email address, the username you choose and a securely hashed password (we never see or store your actual password). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and nothing else.
What you add. Your display name, bio and avatar image (if you set them), the ratings and reviews you write for games and movies, the games you add to your lists (Want to play, Playing, Played, Dropped) and the movies on your watchlist (Want to watch, Watching, Watched, Dropped).
Technical data. To keep the site secure we briefly process your IP address and, when you log in, your email address, to limit repeated attempts (for example, too many logins). These counters expire automatically within an hour. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs for a short period to operate and protect the service.
What is public
Your username, display name, avatar, bio, reviews, ratings, game lists and movie watchlist are shown on your public profile and on game and movie pages. Your email address is never shown to other users.
Why we use it
- To create and secure your account, and to send sign-up confirmation and password emails.
- To show your ratings, reviews and lists, and to calculate community scores.
- To prevent spam, abuse and attempts to break into accounts.
We process this data because you asked us to provide the service by creating an account, and to keep the service secure. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Trailer videos are embedded from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and are only loaded when you press play.
Who processes your data
We use these service providers to run SpawnScore. Each processes data only to provide its service to us:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and avatar storage. Data is stored in Tokyo, Japan.
- Vercel: website hosting and delivery (servers in Tokyo, with a global network).
- Resend: sends account emails such as sign-up confirmations.
- Upstash: short-lived security counters used for rate limiting.
- Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google” to sign in.
Game information, cover art and screenshots come from IGDB (Twitch); some scores come from Steam. Movie information, posters and photos come from TMDB, and IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores from OMDb. News images load from the publishers that wrote each story. Images load directly from those services, which means they can see your IP address, as with any image on the web. Your personal data may therefore be processed outside India, with these providers’ standard safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile, reviews, ratings, lists and avatar within 30 days, apart from anything we must keep by law. Rate-limiting counters expire within an hour.
Your rights
You can view and edit your profile at any time in Settings, and edit or delete any review on its game or movie page. You can also ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account. Email support@spawnscore.in from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response, you may complain to the data protection authority where you live (in India, the Data Protection Board of India).
Security
Connections are always encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, database access rules ensure users can only change their own content, and uploads are checked before they are stored. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify affected users of any breach as the law requires.
Children
SpawnScore is not intended for children. You must be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to create an account. If you believe a child has given us personal data without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will let account holders know by email.
